Refurbishment Project

LATEST UPDATE (2nd July 2018) : We have now submitted our application to the Garfield Weston Foundation for a grant of £150,000. The Trustees decisions will be announced in early October. If successful we will be able to start the refurbishment work in January 2019. It will take 12 weeks to complete. In the meantime we have raised approximately £14,000 towards the project.

LATEST UPDATE (18th April 2018) : We have decided to apply to the Garfield Weston Foundation for a grant. They are a family-founded, grant-making trust who have been supporting charities across the UK for 60 years. To mark this milestone they have set up a 60th Anniversary Fund. The submission deadline is 30th June.

LATEST UPDATE (26th January 2018) : After a long process we have finally received the relevant permission to do the Refurbishment Works. Below is a photo of some of the PCC members celebrating the news! So far donations for the project are up to £11,100 – thank you to all who have given so far.

LATEST UPDATE (18th November 2017) : The PCC (Church Council) have processed the quotes from various contractors and have decided to appoint Paul Smith & Co Ltd to do the works. The good news is that the quote was approximately the same as the estimated cost, but we won’t be able to proceed until all funding for the project is in place. So far donations for the project are up to £9,000 – thank you to all who have given so far.

LATEST UPDATE (20th October 2017) : We’ve made a good start with donations for the project – up to £7,500 already. We’re beginning to consider options for grant applications.

The Project

After much prayer, planning and preparation we are excited by the prospect of a refurbished church building and believe that this is God’s next step for us at St Mark’s. The refurbishment will enable us to develop and grow our current ministries as well as providing a fit for purpose building to serve our community effectively  for years to come. A summary of the project is as follows:

  • KITCHENETTE – This will include a drinks servery, a sink, a dishwasher, a fridge, and kitchen units.
  • FRONT AREA – The stone font will be moved to the south east side of the dais in order to bring it back into use. The store room partition walls will be removed and the raised dais will be made the same height from wall to wall with a new carpet overlaid.
  • OTHER ASPECTS – The church’s internal floor will be levelled throughout and a new floor covering fitted. A new lighting scheme will also be installed.

Where will the money come from?

We need to raise a total of £176,739  to be able to do the refurbishment work.
It is hoped that the project will be financed from the following sources:
  • Grants from Charitable Trusts
  • Fundraising Events
  • Gifts from Individuals
